Welcome!
We are the ELL teachers at the Evansville Community School District:
Mrs. Marcela Tyson - Elementary, Intermediate and Middle School.
Ms. Deicy Duran- High School (ELL and Success Unlimited)
It is a pleasure to work with our ELL students and their families.
Everybody wonders what ELL stands for.
ELL stands for English Language Learners.
Many students who attend the Evansville Community School District have the special gift of speaking two or more different languages, or being in a family who does the same.
ELL is a program to assist students in learning, or becoming more proficient in the English language. In ELL we focus on language development and literacy skills along with support of classroom instruction. The students may be assisted in the ELL classroom for small group instruction, in-class assistance, or a combination of both.
How can you help at home?
Talk, read and encourage your child every day!
If you and your child feel more comfortable with your native language, then talk and read in that language.
You will help your child develop comprehension skills which will help him or her later in English, too.
You and your child need to remember that speaking two languages is a gift and an asset!
But...I don't know English!
No problem! Then speak and read in your native language.
Besides, as your child learns English you can learn it, too!
There is always the chance of English classes for adults, libraries, online courses, etc.
Please, feel always free to ask us for suggestions but do not let a language barrier stop you!
